Around the NAFL

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Just days away from the 2009 season and there is a lot of stuff going on. Well, the DETROIT LIONS spent a lot of time this offseason in the film room and learning the playbook with Gerald Meeber. They feel one of the reasons he did not excel last year was because of his lack of knowledge of the Lions offense, but they will be making sure that is not a problem this year. The JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS are rumored to be working out on a deal that will keep both start defensive tackles, Marcus Stroud and John Henderson, together once their two year deals are over. The CAROLINA PANTHERS are opening up their offense after the stellar play of Patrick Ramsey last year.

Temperature Rising

The DALLAS COWBOYS are said to be very pleased with their current roster and they have accomplished their main goal, signing Ben Roethlisberger to a 6 year, $41 million deal. The SEATTLE SEAHAWKS are turning to youth and there are rumors that the 4th overall pick will challenge for a starting CB job. Ethan Doebler has looked great in camp and will start.

The CLEVELAND BROWNS faced their first losing season last year and believe that with the oldest roster in the NAFL it is time for rebuilding, and it starts at the OLB position after Kennedy Charron’s devastating knee injury. The SAN FRANSISCO 49ers have apparently contacted New England about a possible trade involving Tom Brady of the NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS, although both front offices deny it is true, several sources have confirmed this mega-deal which would involve Juan Getson and three first round picks. The WASHINGTON REDSKINS had worked out a six year deal with cornerback Clarence Dayne, they have also experimented with rookie fullback Tomich Randall at running back. Rumor has it the CHICAGO BEARS are quietly working behind the scenes to bring in a big time quarterback to replace Tim Rattay as the starter before the 2009 season.

Ty Warren : 6 Years, $73

Buffalo Bills : They did what was said, couldn’t be done, they signing Malcolm Kelley

Gerald Meeber : After last year’s less then stellar performance, Meeber says “This year I do better than Zach Palmer”

Bernard Banks : Looked great in training camp, expect a monster year after last year’s second half performance

Redskins : A very solid draft has hopes high for this year...but you have to beat Dallas first

Offense : It’ll be interesting to see how offenses can go against the defensive rookies that came into the draft

David Carr (HOU): The Texans franchise quarterback has yet to return to form after his injury, might not start for 2009

Cincinnati : First Chad Johnson wanted out, then Rudi Johnson is out of the door? What exactly is going on in Ohio?

New York Jets  : Who will replace Pennington? Boller? Raw? Crawford? Maybe Skip Wren? Likely chance.

Terrell Betrozoff (OAK) : Shows flashes, but the boy is still very raw and probably ride the bench out...
